Hey Mr. Carter!!! Tell me where have you been....

Rubin "Hurricane" Carter Biography
(1937–)

Prizefighter. Born May 6, 1937, in Clifton, New Jersey. In 1966, at the height of his boxing career, Carter was wrongly convicted—twice—of a triple murder and imprisoned for nearly two decades. During the mid-1970s, his case became a cause celébrè for a number of civil rights leaders, politicians, and entertainers. He was ultimately exonerated, in 1985, after a United States district court judge declared the convictions to be based on racial prejudice.

Carter, who grew up in Paterson, New Jersey, was arrested and sent to the Jamesburg State Home for Boys at age 12 after he attacked a man with a Boy Scout knife. He claimed the man was a pedophile who had been attempting to molest one of his friends. Carter escaped before his six-year term was up and in 1954 he joined the Army, where he served in a segregated corps and began training as a boxer. He won two European light-welterweight championships and in 1956 returned to Paterson with the intention of becoming a professional boxer. Almost immediately upon his return, police arrested Carter and forced him to serve the remaining 10 months of his sentence in a state reformatory.

In 1957, Carter was again arrested, this time for purse snatching; he spent four years in Trenton State, a maximum-security prison, for that crime. After his release, he channeled his considerable anger, towards his situation and that of Paterson’s African-American community, into his boxing—he turned pro in 1961 and began a startling four-fight winning streak, including two knockouts. For his lightning-fast fists, Carter soon earned the nickname “Hurricane,” and became one of the top contenders for the world middleweight crown. In December 1963, in a non-title bout, he beat then-welterweight world champion Emile Griffith in a first round KO. Although he lost his one shot at the title, in a 15-round split decision to reigning champion Joey Giardello in December 1964, he was widely regarded as a good bet to win his next title bout.

As one of the most famous citizens of Paterson, Carter made no friends with the police, especially during the summer of 1964, when he was quoted in The Saturday Evening Post as expressing anger towards the occupations by police of black neighborhoods. His flamboyant lifestyle (Carter frequented the city’s nightclubs and bars) and juvenile record rankled the police, as did the vehement statements he had allegedly made advocating violence in the pursuit of racial justice.

Terrance Boykin aka Bump J
Rapper robber takes federal plea

Faced with a possible life sentence in federal prison, Chicago rapper Terrance Boykin, aka Bump J, accepted a plea deal that carries a minimum seven year sentence. In the plea deal signed June 26, Boykin admitted his guilt in the Jan. 4, 2007 robbery of the Chase Bank, 800 Madison St., which netted $108,135. He also admitted threatening bank employees with a gun.

Under federal sentencing guidelines, Boykin, 28, faced between 37 and 46 months in prison for the bank robbery itself, but life in prison for menacing bank employees with a .45 caliber handgun. He will be required to serve a mandatory minimum seven years on the charge of brandishing a gun during a crime of violence. He's scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Charles R. Norgle on Sept. 1.

Police say Boykin and another man entered the bank the morning of Jan. 4, 2007, announced a robbery and took the money from a vault. Boykin was arrested in November 2008 without incident after a routine traffic stop by downstate Carbondale police.

He earned local notoriety in 2004 for the Chicago hit, "Move Around," which was produced by superstar rapper Kanye West. At the time of the bank robbery Boykin was reportedly working on a "comeback" album and had just released a record.

Recession?

Feds Take Down Drug Cartel With Chicago Operation

Federal prosecutors on Thursday unveiled new indictments charging that accused Mexican drug cartel members pumped vast quantities of drugs into major U.S. cities through a Chicago-based operation.

As CBS 2's Derrick Blakley reports, this was no ordinary drug bust. For years, everyone from regular Joes to Mayor Richard M. Daley have asked: why don't the feds concentrate harder on nailing the drug kingpins?

Thursday's indictments showed progress in doing just that. Ironically, some of the kingpins were operating practically on the mayor's doorstep.

Just one day before, Daley was in Washington, D.C., discussing drug cartels with the head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

"We talked about how international terrorists are having an effect on life in our neighborhoods," Daley said. On Thursday, he learned the problem has landed hard in his own neighborhood.

A total of 36 defendants in the United States and Mexico were charged, including 10 drug cartel leaders. Three of them were once allied, but now run rival cartels, federal prosecutors said. Also among those charged was a pair of twin brothers – Pedro and Margarito Flores – accused of running a Chicago-based distribution cell supplied by the cartel leaders.

The new court documents depict a sprawling distribution network stretching back nearly two decades, based on investigations by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Immigration officials and the IRS.

Authorities contend three suspects oversaw the shipment of nearly 200 metric tons of cocaine and large amounts of heroin into the United States.

Patrick Aubin, a South Loop resident said the dealers were storing their drugs at a townhouse at 1332 S. Prairie. The home was identified in a federal indictment as a drug storehouse for a Mexican drug cartel. That storehouse is less than two blocks away from Daley's home.

"Who would think that right under the mayor's nose something like this would be going on?" Aubin said.

South Loop resident Burce Downs said "Just commenting to my wife, I've never seen anyone here. There's a car in garage. Never seen the car move." He said it's possible the car didn't move but drugs did.

The cartel leaders allegedly supplied cocaine and heroin to wholesale distributors, including Pedro and Margarito Flores. Their Chicago distribution cell supplied cocaine and heroin dealers in Cincinnati; Columbus, Ohio; Detroit; Milwaukee; New York; Philadelphia; Washington, D.C.; Vancouver, British Columbia; and other cities.

The indictments were announced Thursday by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Northern District of Illinois U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald called it the most significant drug conspiracy ever charged in Chicago. "Approximately 1,500 to 2,000 kilos of coke per month and significant quantities of heroin were going to an organization in Chicago led by the Flores brothers, who were the pipeline."

In fact, the feds said the Flores twins used at least eight local drug storehouses, including the one in the 1900 block of South Prairie, another in Romeoville and another in Plainfield -- all in middle- and upper-class neighborhoods.

South Loop resident Sandra Galvo said, "You don't expect people that live in this neighborhood to associate with anything like that. So it's a good cover-up in my opinion."

Also indicted were Joaquin "El-Chapo" Guzman-Loera, reputed head of Mexico's Sina-Loera drug cartel, with the feds seeking to financially crush the cartel.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said, "If we can suffocate their funding sources, we can cripple their organizations."

Nationwide, the indictments sought to reclaim almost $6 billion in drug proceeds from 43 defendants. That includes more than $1.8 billion in the Chicago area, plus two vehicles, a semi-tractor trailer truck, and residences in Romeoville and Palos Hills

Indictments were unsealed both in Chicago and in Brooklyn, N.Y. Many of the suspects charged were already being hunted by U.S. and Mexican authorities.

The indictments grew out of a street gang investigation in Chicago and drug-related killings in New York.

This Shit is Rediculous!!!!

My Heroes - Spike Lee

Spike Lee Biography
byname of Shelton Jackson Lee
(1957–)

Producer, director, actor. Born Shelton Jackson Lee on March 20, 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia. Growing up in a relatively well-off African-American family, Lee was making amateur films by age 20. His first student film, Last Hustle in Brooklyn, was completed when he was an undergraduate at Morehouse College.

He went on to graduate from the New York University Film School in 1982. His thesis film, Joe's Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads, won a Student Academy Award.

Lee became a director of promise with his first feature film, She's Gotta Have It, in 1986. The film was shot in two weeks on a budget of $160,000 and grossed over $700,000 in the U.S. No stranger to controversy for certain provocative elements in both his films and public statements, Lee often takes a critical look at race relations, political issues and urban crime and violence. His next film, 1989’s Do The Right Thing examined all of the above and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1989.

Subsequent films, including Malcolm X, Mo' Better Blues, Summer of Sam and She Hate Me, continued to explore social and political issues. 4 Little Girls, a piece about the 1963 16th Street Baptist Church bombing, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary in 1997.

My Heroes: Thurgood Marshall

Thurgood Marshall Biography
originally Thoroughgood Marshall
(1908–1993)

Thurgood Marshall

(born July 2, 1908, Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.—died January 24, 1993, Bethesda) lawyer, civil rights activist, and associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States (1967–91), the first African American member of the Supreme Court. As an attorney, he successfully argued before the U.S. Supreme Court the case of Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka (1954), which declared unconstitutional racial segregation in American public schools.

Marshall was the son of William Canfield Marshall, a railroad porter and a steward at an all-white country club, and Norma Williams Marshall, an elementary school teacher. He graduated with honours from Lincoln University (Pennsylvania) in 1930. After being rejected by the University of Maryland Law School because he was not white, Marshall attended Howard University Law School; he received his degree in 1933, ranking first in his class. At Howard he was the protégé of Charles Hamilton Houston, who encouraged Marshall and other law students to view the law as a vehicle for social change.

Upon his graduation from Howard, Marshall began the private practice of law in Baltimore. Among his first legal victories was Murray v. Pearson (1935), in which Marshall successfully sued the University of Maryland for denying an African American applicant admission to its law school simply on the basis of race. In 1936 Marshall became a staff lawyer under Houston for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP); in 1938 he became the lead chair in the legal office of the NAACP, and two years later he was named chief of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund.

New Clipse Video - I'm Good!!!

I'm Good

Building Legacy

Most people that know me know that I am a member of a christian fraternity: Megiste Arete Christian Fraternity, Inc. (For those of you that are asking how do you pronounce that: its pronounced Mah-geee-stay ar-ret-tay)

I have been a member of my organization for nearly a decade now, and I am currently coming up with ideas for a seminar I am teaching at our national conference in September. Doing the planning has me thinking about legacy. I am not convinced that everyone that joins an organization actually thinks about the way with which they want to impact their organization. I also don't think many people that join organizations thoroughly think through how they hope to impact the world through the organization to which they belong. I think most people are only concerned with "belonging".

I become really disappointed at times when I interact with brothers that aren't really concerned with the future of their organization. Is it ever realistic to invest into something and then not seek a dividend, or at least desire to see it grow. It makes me question the heart of a man that isn't thoroughly concerned with that in which he has invested blood, sweat, and tears.

I think it would make since to at least ask yourself these questions:

"How will they remember me?"
"How can I affect the generations to come?"

I want to do my best to help my bros and bros-to-come to be the best men that they could possible become. I want to help them to understand that their christian walk must have function.

East St. Louis Moment!!!

Miles (Dewey) Davis Biography
in full Miles Dewey Davis III
(1926–1991)

(born May 26, 1926, Alton, Ill., U.S.—died Sept. 28, 1991, Santa Monica, Calif.) American jazz musician, a great trumpeter who as a bandleader and composer was one of the major influences on the art from the late 1940s.

Starting out

Davis grew up in East St. Louis, Ill., where his father was a prosperous dental surgeon. (In later years he often spoke of his comfortable upbringing, sometimes to rebuke critics who assumed that a background of poverty and suffering was common to all great jazz artists.) He began studying trumpet in his early teens; fortuitously, in light of his later stylistic development, his first teacher advised him to play without vibrato. Davis played with jazz bands in the St. Louis area before moving to New York City in 1944 to study at the Institute of Musical Art (now the Juilliard School)—although he skipped many classes and instead was schooled through jam sessions with masters such as Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker. Davis and Parker recorded together often during the years 1945–48.

Davis's early playing was sometimes tentative and not always fully in tune, but his unique, intimate tone and his fertile musical imagination outweighed his technical shortcomings. By the early 1950s Davis had turned his limitations into considerable assets. Rather than emulate the busy, wailing style of such bebop pioneers as Gillespie, Davis explored the trumpet's middle register, experimenting with harmonies and rhythms and varying the phrasing of his improvisations. With the occasional exception of multinote flurries, his melodic style was direct and unornamented, based on quarter notes and rich with inflections. The deliberation, pacing, and lyricism in his improvisations are striking.

Craig goes especially stuuuuuuupid at like 3:42. Someone kick him off something.

Growing Pains & Human Resources

Its safe to say that we have all been through some pretty hard times (some of us more than others. This past week was definitely a hard one for me. My wife and I were faced with some really hard decisions. We were put in a position that really could of left us questioning whether God is really for us. We know that God has our back, but every once in a while you are put in a position where you really have to trust in the Lord. The past week(....damn that the last two years of my life )has been just that. I admit that i was really low at first. Whether people could see it on my face or not. But the beauty of how this thing works is that God puts people in your life that have a special calling to minister to you in those times of trouble.

The All-Stars:

Her ministry started on Friday. She taught me that sometimes God's blessings don't always look like blessings initially. Some times there are a blessings that look like downgrades. Sometimes we are so focused on getting what we want in the here and now that we lose sight of the big picture. Thank you Jennifer!

My mom is dope! She always finds ways to minister to me. Check this out:

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
when the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit
Rest, if you must, but do not quit.

The more difficulties one has to encounter, within and without, the more significant and the higher in inspiration his life will be. - Horace Bushnell

I truly believe that Chezare Warren has been assigned to my life by God. Real Talk. God always gives him the perfect thing to say to me at the perfect time. He hooked me up with Psalms 37. It truly hit the spot. Thanks bro!

Lately, these moments in life always make me want to here these two songs....enjoy!!
