Building Legacy

Most people that know me know that I am a member of a christian fraternity: Megiste Arete Christian Fraternity, Inc. (For those of you that are asking how do you pronounce that: its pronounced Mah-geee-stay ar-ret-tay)

I have been a member of my organization for nearly a decade now, and I am currently coming up with ideas for a seminar I am teaching at our national conference in September. Doing the planning has me thinking about legacy. I am not convinced that everyone that joins an organization actually thinks about the way with which they want to impact their organization. I also don't think many people that join organizations thoroughly think through how they hope to impact the world through the organization to which they belong. I think most people are only concerned with "belonging".

I become really disappointed at times when I interact with brothers that aren't really concerned with the future of their organization. Is it ever realistic to invest into something and then not seek a dividend, or at least desire to see it grow. It makes me question the heart of a man that isn't thoroughly concerned with that in which he has invested blood, sweat, and tears.

I think it would make since to at least ask yourself these questions:

"How will they remember me?"
"How can I affect the generations to come?"

I want to do my best to help my bros and bros-to-come to be the best men that they could possible become. I want to help them to understand that their christian walk must have function.
